“I shut my eyes in order to see.” - Paul Gauguin
"Thinking that we are somehow apart from nature in any way is our greatest arrogance."
This project is a performance that accumulates and archives experiences to generate a collection. I have explored and visualized the world we see with our eyes shut through digital paintings that are manipulated by photographs of repetitive natural phenomena, such as sunsets and waves. The project aims to tap into the endless possibilities of the new world that forms when we close our eyes by introducing the concept of a continuous flip. This means that there are no book covers or page numbers to constrain or limit the experience. It’s a book that loops.
The visuals of abstract closed-eye hallucination are manipulated from landscape photography that shows how art forms in nature and uncertainty of voices heard in dreams are evoked by flowing texts.
이 프로젝트는 경험을 축적하고 아카이빙하는 일종의 퍼포먼스이다. 수년간 반복되었던 강력한 꿈들을 돌이켜보고 그때 느꼈던 공통된 감정을 추상화하여 표현하였다.
아무리 누군가에게 내가 꾼 꿈을 이야기 하더라도 본인이 느낀걸 온전히 전달하는 것은 불가하다. 때문에 나는 이 작품을 통해 꿈의 잔상, 강렬했던 느낌을 특정한 형상없는 음악처럼 감정에 호소하며 관객들에게 간접적으로 내 개인적인 경험을 공유한다. 우리는 눈을 감은채로 꿈을 꾼다. 눈을 감고 누워있으면 시야에 하나의 세계가 형성되는데, 붉었다 검었다 희었다 푸르렀다 하는 광채가 어른거려 어느 단어로도 형용할 수 없다.
눈을 감으면 보이는 세상은 내가 직접 아카이빙해온 일몰과 파도와 같은 반복적인 자연 현상의 사진들로부터 도출된 디지털 페인팅을 통해 시각화되었다. 프로젝트는 무한대로 뒤집히고 넘겨지는 개념을 도입하여 눈을 감으면 형성되는 새로운 세계의 끝없는 가능성을 탐구하고자 한다. 이는 책 표지나 페이지 번호가 없어, 관객의 경험을 제한하지 않는다는 것을 의미한다. 결론적으로 이 작품은 무한히 루프 되도록 제작되었다.
자연현상을 다루어 만들어진 안내섬광은 결국 예술은 자연에서부터 만들어진다는 것을 보여주며 꿈에서 들리는 불명확한 목소리는 부서지며 유영하는 텍스트로 표현되었다.
